My New and Improved Morning Routine

Hi, everyone! I hope you are all having a great week. Nic and I really took time to rest and relax this last weekend, which was SO needed! Sometimes, it’s so nice to do nothing. As I mentioned to you all last week, we were dog sitting. We knew our schedule would change a bit having a dog around, but what I didn’t realize was that our new routine would stay.

We now have a new morning routine, and I have to say, it changes my whole day. I used to get up with just enough time to shower, get dressed, put on my make-up, get my bag ready and leave for work and class. It was rushed, and I was always fighting the clock to leave at the right time. I’d always get to work and class on time, but there definitely wasn’t any extra time in between.

Waking Up Earlier – I have started to wake up earlier each day. I know, I know, it’s hard being a morning person, but man is it worth it. Getting up earlier allows me to take my time getting ready, resulting in less stress. Seriously, it makes a BIG difference not rushing in the morning. It also gives me enough time to workout, whether that’s a walk or a run. Getting active in the morning and getting ready at a comfortable pace changes my WHOLE day. I am much calmer and organized. Small changes really add up!

Leisurely & Planned Breakfast – Eating fast does not make me feel good. By giving myself more time in the mornings, I’m able to eat breakfast and have coffee or tea at my own pace. Also, planning out our meals for the week helps a lot and it is something Nic and I have started doing. Stay tuned – I’ll be posting a blog on healthy breakfast smoothies and breakfast sandwiches that will save you LOADS of time in the morning. They’re major time savers (and quite tasty).

Packing The Night Before – Seriously, how easy is this? I started packing my bag for work and class with my books and snacks before I go to bed, so in the morning it’s ready to go and I don’t have to rush. The same goes for lunches, packing lunch the night before and having it ready in the fridge is the best idea. I cannot even begin to explain how much easier this makes my morning.

Drinking More Water – We all know how important it is to stay hydrated… but it’s hard! When you’re on the go, it’s hard to remember to hydrate. In the morning, I started making it a point to drink a glass of water (this was Nic’s thing first, and I stole his idea. What can I say, he’s a smart (and hydrated) guy). Having a glass of water every morning has already made me have less headaches and feel better overall. WIN!

These minor changes to my mornings have created major results in my overall health and wellness. It’s funny to think how tiny progress leads to big results. It’s a good life lesson, too. Success doesn’t happen in a day, it takes time. Don’t be discouraged when you don’t see results right away, it takes time.

Fun fact – I’m planning on signing up for a morning yoga class soon. I can’t wait to tell you about it! I love yoga and am beyond excited to start incorporating it into my morning routine.

If you’re looking for a way to improve your mornings, try out my new routine. I think you’ll be very pleased with the results.
